When he ignored her, she was tempted to smack his arm to get away but he held her tighter. She was certain she’d have bruises later.

She could feel several pairs of eyes on them and some people were whispering. Kaia couldn’t remember a time when she’d been this embarrassed. What must these people be thinking? Some of them gave her pitying looks. She was almost certain that they probably thought she was being abused in some form or other.

“Blaise! I saw you earlier and have been trying to get your attention for most of the night but it seems you’ve been avoiding me, my friend.”

Kaia immediately recognized the man. She’d seen him earlier in the party but every time he came their way, Blaise would steer her away. She even asked her husband if the man was who she thought he was but he said it wasn’t. But now that the man was close up, it was clear that Blaise had lied.

Edgar Paulson was one of the top musical producers in the industry. He’d produced a handful of shows that had won several Tony’s. Edgar was indirectly one of the reasons Bodies in Motion disbanded because he had offered Kaia’s ex Landon a job to choreograph his latest musical. In a way, Kaia couldn’t blame Landon for not passing up the opportunity to work with Edgar because he could make or break a person’s career. But she did hate the way Landon had left the rest of the dancers high and dry.

“Edgar, my apologies but Kaia and I need to get going.”

Kaia dug her heels in refusing to let him drag her away. What was he in such a hurry for? “Blaise you’re being rude. Let me go.”

“I won’t hold you up but I just wanted to thank you for that generous donation you made for my latest venture. I haven’t seen you since New York and I hear congratulations are in order.”

Blaise stiffened. “Thank you,” he said tightly.

Kaia could practically feel the tension in her husband’s body. There was something about this man Blaise didn’t want her to know about. It was apparent the man she married was keeping a lot of things from her so she might as well know what else he was hiding. She held out her hand to the man Blaise didn’t seem to want to introduce her to. “I’m Kaia. Nice to meet you. I’m a big fan of your work.”

The older man raised both brows. “You’re not Kaia Benson by any chance are you?”

“Kaia Lundgaard,” Blaise practically growled.

Again Edgar’s brows shot up. “Well of course.”

“Yes. That was my maiden name,” even though she addressed the producer, she glared at her husband for his rudeness.

“I thought I recognized you. You danced with Bodies in Motion, didn’t you?”

It was Kaia’s turn to be surprised. This powerful Broadway producer actually knew about the little dance troupe she was a part of? “Yes, how did you know?”

“I actually had the honor of catching a show during its last run.
